Wow, it's really raining. There's this book called Flood! by Eric Drooker, and I'm sure I've mentioned it before, but it's amazing.

It's a book of illustrations, and there's one section about NYC being swept away in a giant flood (thus the title of the book). Tonight while walking around and getting soaked I kept feeling as if I were living in Flood!. There were rivers in the gutters and little lakes at the crosswalks. The heavens opened up and gave us (actually 'are giving us', as I write this) an NYC monsoon. And my pants are soaked and the hood of my sweatshirt is soaked through and my socks are soaked, well, suffice it to say that I'm soaked. I absolutely love that point when you're going for a walk in the pouring rain and you realize that trying to stay dry is nigh on impossible. So you forego any thoughts of staying dry and you just let the rain soak you and when the wind blows the rain in your face you don't turn away, but rather you stand there and pretend that you're on board a great big clipper ship with Lou Reed and you're heading into a gale and the wind and the rain are lashing you but rather than feel discomfort and pain you feel kind of permanent. Or impermanent. That, too. A sort of dialectic between the two. Solid and porous. New and old. Yup.

So I'm going to sit here in my soaking clothes for a while and then go to sleep.

Good night,
Moby
